Chaverim Of Rockland Search And Rescue Team Rescues Exhausted Hiker From Indian Head Mountain
An overdue and exhausted hiker was safely assisted off Indian Head Mountain in Hunter NY on Monday evening after a lengthy hike left him struggling to continue along slippery terrain.
The hiker had set out at approximately 12:00 p.m. and ultimately overestimated the route he had planned to complete. After slipping and falling twice on slippery rocks, he became hesitant to continue on his own and reached out to Chaverim of Rockland, which is known for having one of the region’s most experienced and well-equipped search-and-rescue teams.
With just 5% battery remaining on his cellphone, the hiker was able to communicate his situation and location.
Several Chaverim of Rockland Search and Rescue Team members who were already in the area immediately responded, along with additional team members from several surrounding areas who headed toward Indian Head Mountain to assist with the rescue effort.
The members reached the hiker and assisted him through the difficult terrain, ultimately bringing him safely off the mountain.
