A major expansion by Eruv of Monsey into a section of Suffern is nearing completion, with the new eruv expected to be fully kosher and operational in time for Shabbos, iy”H.

The expansion extends from the recently completed Montebello section into an area behind Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern, serving approximately 20 Jewish families and a community that continues to grow in that area. Until now, residents there were unable to carry on Shabbos. The new eruv runs along Route 59 south toward Franklin Turnpike and Route 202, where it connects with the existing Suffern Eruv.

Organizers said the project required extensive planning and highly complicated construction, including specialized mechitzos and custom-made components needed to ensure the eruv met all halachic requirements. The work took significant time, effort and resources, but Eruv of Monsey continued working through the challenges to bring the project to completion.

On Wednesday night, residents of the newly covered Suffern area gathered to celebrate the milestone and thank Eruv of Monsey for its extensive efforts in making the expansion possible.

The final work is expected to be completed Thursday, allowing the expanded eruv to be used beginning this coming Shabbos.

For the approximately 20 families living in the area, and the growing number of families moving into the neighborhood, the completion marks a significant development after years without access to an eruv.
