GAZA AGREEMENT: U.S. Accepts Israel’s Red Lines On Hamas Disarmament, IDF Withdrawal
Israel and the Gaza Board of Peace have reached understandings that would prevent the IDF from redeploying out of Gaza until Hamas is fully disarmed and the entire Gaza Strip is demilitarized.
The understandings were reached following a roughly four-hour meeting Monday between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, President Trump’s envoy Jared Kushner and Gaza Board of Peace CEO Nikolay Mladenov. An Israeli official told Kan News that the Americans accepted the red lines set by Israel’s security establishment regarding Gaza.
A senior Board of Peace official said, “There will be no IDF redeployment from Gaza until Hamas is completely disarmed and all of Gaza is demilitarized.” The demilitarization is to include all light and heavy weapons as well as Hamas’s tunnel infrastructure. Any weapons collected will be completely dismantled so they cannot be used again.
The Board of Peace announced that Hamas has committed to fully disarm and immediately cease all military activity in Gaza, including rearmament and digging tunnels. Israeli officials said the real test will be whether Hamas actually carries out those commitments.
Israel will also retain the right to act if Hamas resumes terrorism, violence or attempts to rearm. “Israel retains its full right to self-defense: if Hamas turns to terrorism, violence or attempts to rearm, Israel will retain the right to act accordingly,” the Board of Peace stated.
Hamas’s complete disarmament and the demilitarization of Gaza will also be required before reconstruction begins. Netanyahu’s office said the process must be carried out rapidly and completed before any rebuilding work starts in Gaza.
Two joint working groups will be established immediately, with one focusing on security, disarmament and demilitarization and the second dealing with basic needs including sanitation, clean water and other public health matters.
The Board of Peace said the talks focused on advancing the full implementation of President Trump’s 20-point peace plan, with the sides sharing the goal of a completely demilitarized Gaza that does not pose a threat to Israel.
