5 Thai Workers Injured, 2 Seriously, In Munition Explosion Near Lebanese Border

Aug 18, 2026·2 min read

Five Thai workers were injured Tuesday morning when unexploded ordnance detonated in an agricultural area near Metula, along the Israeli-Lebanese border.

The explosion occurred at around 7:15 a.m. A military medical team dispatched to the scene provided initial treatment to the victims. Two workers who were seriously injured were evacuated by helicopter to the hospital, while the other three, who sustained light injuries, were transported by ambulance.

Police and bomb disposal experts were called to the scene. According to initial reports, investigators believe the device may have been unexploded cluster munition ordnance. However, the circumstances of the explosion and the precise origin of the munition have not yet been officially confirmed and remain under investigation.

“We received a report of several men who were injured in an explosion in an orchard near Metula,” said senior MDA medic Moti Barel. “We arrived at the scene and saw the injured men conscious and suffering from injuries to their bodies. We began an initial triage and provided medical treatment at the scene, including stopping bleeding and administering medication. Together with an IDF medical team, we evacuated the injured by helicopter and MDA ambulances to the hospital while continuing to provide medical treatment.”

Police again urged the public not to touch shrapnel or fragments from interceptions left over from the fighting in northern Israel and reminded residents to immediately report any suspicious objects to the police emergency hotline.

The Metula Local Council said the explosion occurred in nectarine orchards near the town.
