Dramatic Report: Iran Is Preparing To Strike US Bases In Europe If War Escalates
Iran has examined options for striking U.S. military assets in Europe if the US resumes the war, the Financial Times reported on Wednesday morning, citing sources close to the Iranian regime.
According to two regime insiders, Iran is considering the possibility of striking U.S. bases in southeastern Europe — if President Donald Trump follows through on his threats and strikes Iranian infrastructure.
According to information obtained by the newspaper, the Iranians have identified specific targets in Europe, including US bases in Bulgaria and Cyprus.
In addition to the missile threat, Iran is examining the possibility of striking undersea fiber-optic communications cables in the Strait of Hormuz in the event of an escalation.
However, the sources stressed that the scale and nature of the Iranian response would depend entirely on the steps taken by the United States going forward. One insider said that the Iranian attack on a US base in Jordan, which killed three US service members, was a “message to Europe.”
“This was also a message to Europe: it can receive missiles, so it should know where it should stand in this war,” he said. “A very big mistake, such as hitting our infrastructure, could make the war go beyond the region and reach Europe.”
The second insider emphasized that Iran would “set no limits” on its response if the United States “goes too far.”
“Should the US go too far, Iran will defend itself at any price, go beyond the region and hit Europe too,” he threatened.
Royal United Services Institute research fellow Sidharth Kaushal told the Times that Iran’s newest threat is “real, but limited.” He said the IRGC could use medium-range ballistic missiles to strike U.S. assets in southeastern Europe, but would have greater difficulty inflicting significant damage at longer ranges, as longer-range missiles would require a reduced payload.
