ECONOMIC SHOWDOWN: Iran Mocks Trump’s “D-Day” Campaign, Warns U.S. Of Another Defeat
Iran lashed out at President Donald Trump’s newly announced “D-Day” economic campaign against Tehran, dismissing the sweeping measures as a distraction from America’s debt and rising interest rates and warning that the strategy will end in another U.S. defeat.
Trump announced the unprecedented economic operation on Truth Social, calling for Iran’s complete economic isolation and a blockade in the Strait of Hormuz. “Nobody gave the Islamic Republic a greater opportunity for a deal than me, but they did not take advantage of it,” Trump said.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi responded by describing the move as a “distraction from America’s debt and rising interest rate crises.” He warned that escalating what he called an “economic invasion” and doubling down on U.S. policy would result in another defeat against Iran while damaging the global economy and Iranian sovereignty.
The American plan includes efforts to block oil smuggling, cash transfers and the use of front companies, while imposing economic consequences on countries that maintain economic ties with Iran through financial institutions, businesses or airports.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the measures will combine economic isolation with efforts to prevent vessels from entering or leaving Iranian ports through the Strait of Hormuz, with the goal of denying Iran the ability to possess nuclear weapons or support terrorism.
