New York State Senator Bill Weber presented the Empire Award this week to Mendy Setton and Shaya Setton, the brothers behind The Diner and the popular Pies n’ Fries restaurants in Rockland County.
The Empire Award is presented by New York State senators to recognize businesses that have distinguished themselves through entrepreneurship, economic activity and contributions to their communities. Weber has previously presented the honor to several Rockland County businesses.
The Setton brothers own The Diner, a kosher American-style restaurant in Pomona that opened earlier this year in the former Mount Ivy All American Diner on Route 202.
Designed around the feel of a classic American diner, the restaurant serves traditional comfort-food favorites in a restored retro setting. The project was developed by the team behind Pies n’ Fries, with Chef Isaac Bernstein involved in developing the menu and recipes.
The approximately 135-seat restaurant, which also offers outdoor seating, was conceived as a family-friendly dining destination offering the experience of a traditional American diner for the area’s kosher community.
The Setton brothers also own Pies n’ Fries, which operates two locations in Rockland County and has become a familiar name in the local kosher dining scene.
“We are deeply honored to receive this recognition,” the brothers said following the presentation. “This belongs to our incredible team and every single guest who walks through our doors. We love this community, and we are excited to keep serving you for years to come.”
The award recognizes the brothers’ growing presence in Rockland County’s restaurant industry and their continued investment in businesses serving the local community.
