There are some places you go to for the 8 weeks of summer.
And then, there’s Camp Emunah.
A place where somehow for a few weeks, you forget about the outside world.
There’s something about Camp Emunah that is almost impossible to explain to someone who hasn’t experienced it.
As head counselors, we had the privilege to see all the behind the scenes, the late nights, the crazy ideas and the hours upon hours of planning that somehow all came together.
300+ Chabad girls, all from different backgrounds, coming together for one purpose. For an opportunity to learn, grow and become the best version of herself in every area. A summer filled with Torah, Chassidus, incredible energy, music, laughter and SO much more.
In 1953, when Rabbi and Rebbetzin JJ Hecht obm founded Camp Emunah, the Rebbe spoke to the staff that were heading out that summer and said Camp Emunah is “שלוחות מהשם ממש.”
This summer, we are proud to say that we really felt those words. Looking at each child for who they are and not for anything else.
By being in Camp Emunah, we are carrying something that the Rebbe personally entrusted us with, and that is felt throughout the whole day.
From the moment the girls wash Negel Vasser in the morning, up until Rebbe time at night, the girls are learning and growing while at the same time having the happiest and most memorable summer. It didn’t feel like we were simply staff running a summer camp. It felt like we were Shluchim, entrusted with the responsibility of carrying on what the Rebbe wanted Camp Emunah to be.
Camp Emunah doesn’t just create memories,
it creates a feeling.
As one camper so beautifully put it, “Camp Emunah is the place where my Neshama thrives.”
And maybe that’s exactly what makes Emunah so different. It’s a place where a girl doesn’t just have fun or make memories. She feels connected. She feels inspired. She feels like she can be her truest self. Her Neshama has room to breathe, to grow, and to thrive.
A feeling that you remember once you’re sitting at home after camp and suddenly realize…
Wait. It’s over?
Because honestly, it still doesn’t feel like it is.
We still expect to walk into the dining room and hear the music blasting.
We still expect everyone to start dancing.
To hear another announcement.
Another surprise.
Another night where nobody wants to go to bed.
Another morning where the whole camp wakes up and somehow has more energy than seems humanly possible.
Camp may have ended.
But somehow, it didn’t.
Because when you spend a summer in a place where you can feel so much joy, so much connection, so much Yiddishkeit, and so much love, you don’t really leave it.
You take it with you.
And we can proudly say “You can take a girl out of Emunah, but you can NEVER take Emunah out of a girl.”
Thank you Camp Emunah.
Love your 2nd Month Head Counselors
