The Crown Heights Jewish Community Council is launching a new Small Home Repair Initiative to help Crown Heights residents with small but important jobs around the house.

The program will provide labor at no cost for eligible minor repairs, with priority given to seniors, individuals with disabilities, and residents who may have difficulty taking care of these jobs themselves.

Examples may include installing handrails or grab bars, changing light fixtures, hanging shelves, repairing or tightening household fixtures, and other minor home maintenance.

“Sometimes a small repair can make a big difference, especially for a senior or someone with a disability,” said Shmuly Rosenstein, Acting Chairman of CHJCC. “We want CHJCC to provide practical help that makes people’s homes safer and more comfortable.”

The initiative is for Crown Heights residents only and is limited to small repairs. It does not include renovations, construction projects, or work requiring a licensed contractor. The program is available for a limited period of time and is subject to capacity and availability.

How It Works

Please email your name, phone number, a description of the repairs needed, and clear pictures of the work that needs to be done.

CHJCC will review the request and, if the project can be accommodated, will advise what materials or supplies are needed.

CHJCC provides the labor at no cost; residents are responsible for purchasing and supplying all necessary materials. Once the materials have arrived, CHJCC will coordinate an available time to complete the work.
