NEW SQUARE: Old Skvere Beis Hamedrish to Be Demolished Following Structural Inspection
Nearly three weeks after a partial roof collapse at the old Skvere Beis Hamedrish in New Square, a structural inspection conducted Monday determined that the entire building will need to be demolished due to stability concerns.
The building has remained closed since the partial collapse earlier this month, when a section of the roof above the Minyanim Shtiblach gave way. B’chasdei Hashem, despite the collapse occurring at the heavily used Beis Hamedrish, no injuries were reported.
Following the incident, the Skvere Beis Hamedrish announced that the old building would remain closed until further notice, with tefillos relocated to the new Beis Hamedrish.
Sources tell Monsey Scoop that Monday’s inspection determined the old structure cannot remain standing and will ultimately have to be taken down. The demolition is expected to be carried out over the next several months.
The old Beis Hamedrish will continue to remain completely off-limits as preparations are made for the demolition.
