Ramapo Police Operations Captain Kevin Lee is set to retire at the end of August, bringing to a close more than 34 years of service to the Town of Ramapo and the Ramapo Police Department.

Lee began his law enforcement career in August 1992 at the Rockland County Police Academy, where he served as class president and graduated as valedictorian. Over the following three decades, he served in nearly every area of the Ramapo Police Department, building extensive operational, administrative and technical experience.

After beginning as a patrol officer, Lee was assigned to the Traffic Safety Unit and was promoted to Sergeant in 2005. He later served as Communications Sergeant before being promoted to Lieutenant in 2016. As a Lieutenant, he served in both Special Services and Administration before later being promoted to Captain, serving as Administrative Captain and ultimately Operations Captain.

Throughout his career, Lee also served as the Department’s Accreditation Program Manager, helping ensure Ramapo Police continued to meet the professional standards required of a New York State-accredited law enforcement agency.

Department officials said Lee became a trusted resource for members across the agency due to his extensive knowledge of department operations, technology, policies, procedures and history.

“There is no question that Kevin’s retirement will leave a void in our Department,” Ramapo Police Chief Daniel Hyman told Monsey Scoop. “For more than 34 years, he has been an indispensable part of this organization. We thank him not only for his service, but for his friendship, his leadership, and the legacy he leaves behind. We wish Kevin and his family a long, healthy and well-deserved retirement.”

Ramapo Town Supervisor Michael Specht also praised Lee’s decades of service, telling Monsey Scoop, “We are grateful to Captain Lee for his more than 34 years of dedicated service to the residents of our town. Captain Lee demonstrated exemplary professionalism, leadership and commitment to law enforcement throughout his career, and he leaves behind big shoes to fill. We are sad to see him go but happy for him to enjoy a long and happy retirement.”

Captain Lee will officially retire at the end of August 2026.
