With camps over and families back home, Crown Heights is getting ready for the start of the school year.

School supplies are being bought, last-minute errands are taking families up and down Kingston Avenue, and everyone is getting those final things in place before the first day of school.

But the school day is only one part of a child’s day.

Across Crown Heights, organizations provide girls with places to learn, spend time with friends, find mentorship and support, and make the most of the hours after school.

Keren Hachomesh helps make many of these programs possible, providing funding to organizations serving girls throughout the community.

As the new school year begins, here are some of the programs Keren Hachomesh is proud to support.

Mogineinu

Mogineinu provides an after-school program for girls who need additional support and a structured, caring environment. Girls can spend their afternoons surrounded by positive influences, activities and people invested in their growth.

Big Sister Program

The Big Sister Mentoring Program pairs eighth-grade girls with post-seminary mentors, giving them a trusted “big sister” for friendship, guidance, and support. The program works with Crown Heights girls’ schools and has already reached hundreds of girls, with relationships that can last for years.

The Space

The Space gives Crown Heights girls a welcoming place to go after school. Through programming, activities, learning and opportunities to socialize, girls can connect with friends in a positive and engaging environment.

Batsheva Learning Center

Batsheva Learning Center empowers women and girls to become confident, independent Torah learners. Its High School Chidon brings that mission beyond their regular school learning, challenging hundreds of girls to master an entire sefer. 

Neshamos

Neshamos promotes mental and emotional wellness in the Crown Heights community, providing education, resources and support around trauma, mental health and addiction while working to reduce stigma and isolation.

Living Chassidus

Living Chassidus provides seminary and post-seminary young women with a warm community centered around Chassidus, learning, friendship and connection. 

Each of these after-school programs offers something different, from mentoring and emotional wellness to learning, activities, and friendship.

Together, they are part of the network supporting Crown Heights girls throughout the year, and Keren Hachomesh is proud to help make their work possible.
