Two new air conditioning units were installed Tuesday at 770 Eastern Parkway, replacing equipment that had served the Main Shul for decades.
The installation began early Tuesday morning, with a large crane arriving at the corner of Kingston Avenue and Union Street around 6:00 a.m. Crews then removed the old units and lifted the replacements into place.
According to the Gaboim of 770, the project carries a price tag of more than $250,000.
This week, new doors were installed at the main Shul of 770 as well.
The improvements were made ahead of Tishrei, when thousands of guests are expected to spend extended periods in 770 throughout the Yomim Tovim.
When there was concern that the new Carrier unit would not arrive in time for Rosh Hashanah, Rabbi Shaya Gopin of Farmington Chabad, a longtime Connecticut friend of Carrier CEO David Gitlin, reached out to him on behalf of 770. Gitlin took a personal interest in the matter and helped ensure that the unit was expedited and delivered in time for installation ahead of Tishrei. The Gaboim expressed their gratitude to Gitlin for his personal assistance in helping ensure that 770 would be ready for the thousands of guests expected for the Yomim Tovim.
