Chaverim Of Rockland is warning local residents about a scam involving fraudulent phone calls and voicemails from individuals posing as representatives of the New York State EBT/DSS office.

According to the warning, victims receive a call or voicemail claiming that their EBT card has been suspended for security reasons and must be reactivated. Those who call back or follow the automated prompts are directed to enter their 19-digit EBT card number and PIN.

Once that information is entered, scammers can gain access to the victim’s account and potentially drain their available EBT benefits, leaving families without funds when they attempt to use their card.

Residents are reminded that NYS EBT/DSS will never call, text or email asking for an EBT card number or PIN. Anyone receiving such a call should hang up immediately, avoid pressing any numbers or returning the call, and never provide personal EBT information.
