Left-wing activists are organizing a new effort to bring Israelis living abroad back to Israel to vote in the October 27 election, using Jordan as an alternative route amid high airfare and limited flights to Ben Gurion Airport.

Under the initiative, Israelis would fly to Amman during the week before the election and then travel by organized buses to the border crossing near Beit Shean. From there, they would continue into Israel by train or private transportation.

The effort is being promoted by the Facebook group “Supporting a Free Democratic Israel” and is being organized by a group of Arabic-speaking Israeli volunteers led by Haifa resident Gilad Mulyan, in cooperation with a Jordanian tourism agency and transportation company.

Organizers say the Jordan route is expected to cost approximately $100 per traveler, including border fees and transportation. Arabic-speaking Israeli volunteers would meet participants at the airport in Amman and accompany them during the journey to Israel.

The initiative is part of a broader effort by activists opposed to the current government to help Israelis overseas return to the country for Election Day, potentially bringing additional voters into Israel at a time when polls show a tight battle between the political blocs.

Organizers say the initiative is formally open to Israeli citizens regardless of political affiliation. For security reasons, however, applicants will reportedly be required to provide a photograph of their Israeli passport and have a credible social-media profile before receiving final registration details.
