BILLIONS IN OIL: Chevron, U.S. Energy Firms Near Major Venezuela Deals
Chevron and other major U.S. energy companies are nearing agreements to invest billions of dollars in Venezuela’s oil fields, potentially marking a significant expansion of American involvement in the country’s vast energy sector, according to The Wall Street Journal.
Chevron is close to an agreement that would expand its longstanding operations in Venezuela by potentially adding two new heavy-oil fields to its portfolio. The company currently operates three joint ventures with Venezuela’s state-owned oil company, PdVSA, and remains the only major U.S. oil company currently operating in the country.
Halliburton is also in discussions to bring equipment and oil-field services back into Venezuela as American energy companies move toward new investments following months of negotiations.
The emerging agreements would represent a major development for President Trump’s push to expand U.S. involvement in Venezuela’s enormous oil industry, with billions of dollars in potential American investment now moving closer to reality.
