For the first time since reports emerged last week, the Shin Bet has officially confirmed that Yair Netanyahu, the prime minister’s son, faced a “significant threat” while living in Miami.

The security establishment subsequently made the urgent decision to bring Netanyahu back to Israel along with his close protection team from the Shin Bet’s VIP Protection Unit.

“In light of this, and following a situational assessment, a decision was made to urgently evacuate him back to Israel together with his security detail,” the Shin Bet said in a statement.

Channel 12 reported that the Shin Bet diverted some of its agents who were providing security for President Isaac Herzog, who was visiting New York at the time, to Miami to assist in the operation.

The statement follows remarks by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who revealed during a live interview on Channel 14 last week that Iran had attempted to assassinate one of his sons.

“As for my sons, I think there is something unbelievable here. Iran targeted one of my sons. Iran tried to murder, to kill one of my sons,” Netanyahu said.

The military censor was reportedly caught off guard by Netanyahu’s disclosure of the assassination attempt during the live broadcast. For weeks, media outlets had been prohibited from publishing information about the matter, and even now, restrictions on the publication of specific details remain in place.
