A woman in her 50s was killed and six other people were injured early Sunday morning in a serious multi-vehicle crash on Highway 2 near Atlit.

Emergency services were alerted to the collision at approximately 6:13 a.m. Magen David Adom paramedics and EMTs arriving at the scene found extensive wreckage involving four vehicles, including one that had been badly crushed and another that had overturned onto its side.

Inside the crushed vehicle, rescuers found a woman in her 50s trapped and unresponsive.

MDA paramedic Netanel Menachem and EMT Linoy Azulai said: “Inside the crushed vehicle, a woman approximately 50 years old was trapped, unconscious, with no pulse and not breathing, suffering from extremely severe injuries. We performed medical examinations, but unfortunately, her injuries were critical and there was nothing we could do but pronounce her dead.”

A man in his 60s was trapped inside the overturned vehicle but remained conscious. Emergency personnel provided medical treatment while firefighters worked to extricate him. He was subsequently transported to the hospital in serious condition.

Five additional people suffered minor injuries in the crash.

The injured were transported to Hillel Yaffe Medical Center and Rambam Health Care Campus for further treatment.

Police officers and traffic investigators were dispatched to the scene and opened an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deadly collision.
