Nearly three years of fighting have severely degraded Hezbollah’s elite Radwan Force, stripping it of the ability to carry out the massive, coordinated invasion of northern Israel that the terror group spent nearly two decades preparing, according to a new report by Walla military correspondent Amir Bohbot.

The IDF’s campaign against Radwan has systematically targeted the unit’s commanders, fighters, underground infrastructure and supporting networks, dramatically changing the balance of power along the Lebanon border.

IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir has placed particular emphasis on dismantling the elite force, backed by extensive intelligence collection that extended beyond Radwan operatives themselves to secondary and tertiary support networks.

During the fighting, Israeli forces uncovered the full extent of Hezbollah’s underground infrastructure near the border, revealing the scale of preparations that had been made for a potential attack on Israeli territory.

According to the report, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah initially hesitated to activate the invasion plan. By the time he began seriously considering it, the IDF had reorganized its forces along the northern border and disrupted Hezbollah’s plans through operations on the ground and from the air.

The situation changed even more dramatically once the IDF launched its deep ground maneuver in Lebanon. Most Radwan fighters withdrew deeper into Lebanese territory, while many of the unit’s veteran commanders and experienced field officers were eliminated.

Those commanders have largely been replaced by younger operatives without comparable battlefield experience, resulting in what the report describes as a significant deterioration of Radwan’s operational command structure.

The damage has deprived Hezbollah of one of its most dangerous capabilities: launching a coordinated, deadly cross-border assault simultaneously at numerous locations.

Hezbollah had spent nearly 18 years developing the plan, which envisioned Radwan terrorists infiltrating Israel by surprise, seizing communities and IDF positions throughout the Galilee, and creating a major strategic and psychological victory.

The planned assault was designed to take place both above and below ground, using extensive tunnel systems and other infrastructure built along the border.

Israel’s destruction of forward Hezbollah positions, underground routes and command structures has now pushed the terror group away from an offensive posture near the border and forced it deeper into a defensive battle for survival.

The IDF believes the weakened Radwan Force no longer presents the same invasion threat that existed before October 7, though Northern Command continues preparing for a wide range of potential Hezbollah attack scenarios.
