Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has vowed to retaliate following a U.S. military strike on Larak Island, warning that the attack “will be answered” and “will result in the punishment of the aggressor.”

The warning came after U.S. forces struck two IRGC rocket launchers on Larak Island that had been preparing to launch rockets carrying sea mines toward the Strait of Hormuz. The attack marked the first U.S. strike inside Iran in weeks.

According to an American official, U.S. forces have also completed an operation to clear mines from international shipping lanes in the Strait of Hormuz. The official said Washington continues to closely monitor developments and remains prepared to protect freedom of navigation and commercial shipping through the strategic waterway.

Iran’s Tasnim news agency initially reported that two people were killed in the U.S. strike and said the attack on Larak Island was carried out by a drone.

The IRGC subsequently issued a threat of retaliation, saying the strike had killed and wounded several IRGC personnel and civilians. The Guard warned that the attack would not go unanswered and vowed that those responsible would face punishment.

The latest escalation comes after two previous ceasefires between the United States and Iran, in April and June, collapsed within a short period. Both agreements had been aimed in part at restoring freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz amid the months-long confrontation.
