A Jewish man was assaulted and robbed in an apparently unprovoked antisemitic attack in Midtown Manhattan on Monday evening, with the attack captured on CCTV footage.

The incident occurred at approximately 5:45 p.m. near West 47th Street and Sixth Avenue, close to Manhattan’s Diamond District.

According to information provided to YWN, the victim was walking along Sixth Avenue when a man he had never encountered before suddenly approached him and began repeatedly shouting antisemitic slurs and profanities.

CCTV footage from the area shows the victim walking normally before the suspect approaches him. The attacker then grabbed the victim’s hat and punched him hard in the side of the head, leaving significant bruising around his temple.

After the assault, the victim attempted to photograph the attacker. The suspect then grabbed the victim’s phone and threw it to the ground before fleeing.

Two bystanders came to the victim’s aid and began following the suspect as the victim contacted 911 and Manhattan Shomrim.

Manhattan Shomrim immediately launched an operation to locate the attacker, with volunteers responding to the area and coordinating closely with the NYPD. The joint response ultimately led to the suspect being located and taken into custody.

The NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force became involved in the investigation, and the suspect was charged with felony robbery and assault-related hate crime charges.

Despite the serious charges, the suspect was released without having to post bail several hours after his arrest. The criminal case remains active and the charges against him will continue to be prosecuted.

The victim, meanwhile, has been left badly shaken by the attack and concerned for his safety while returning to work and going about his daily routine.

Manhattan Shomrim thanked the responding NYPD officers and the NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force for their work in investigating the attack.
