SECRET ISRAEL VISITS: Sanctioned Sudanese RSF Commander Reportedly Held Covert Meetings In Israel
Senior officials from Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces have reportedly made several secret visits to Israel as the paramilitary group seeks to strengthen its diplomatic ties and international standing.
According to a report by Africa Intelligence, RSF deputy commander Abdel Rahim Dagalo has been expanding channels of communication with Israeli officials as part of an effort to secure political and diplomatic support amid Sudan’s ongoing civil war.
The report says Dagalo secretly visited Israel together with several other senior officials, despite being under personal sanctions imposed by the United Nations, United States and European Union over his alleged responsibility for war crimes committed in Sudan’s western Darfur region.
Dagalo is the brother of RSF leader Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, better known as Hemedti. The RSF has been fighting Sudan’s military for roughly three years in a devastating conflict that has left the country facing a massive humanitarian crisis.
The United States has determined that members of the RSF and allied militias committed genocide in Sudan, citing systematic atrocities committed against civilians during the conflict.
The reported contacts with Israel come as the RSF seeks to broaden its foreign relationships and strengthen its international legitimacy while the battle for control of Sudan continues.
