TERROR CASH BUST: Israeli Forces Find NIS 1.4 Million Hidden Inside Vehicle Near Jerusalem
Israeli security forces seized approximately NIS 1.4 million in cash suspected of being intended for terrorism after discovering the money hidden inside a vehicle traveling from Yehuda and Shomron toward Jerusalem.
The seizure took place over the weekend at the Tunnels Checkpoint during an operation involving Border Police officers from the Jerusalem perimeter and troops stationed at the crossing.
Security forces stopped the vehicle for inspection and discovered a concealed double wall inside the vehicle. Officers opened the compartment and found two bags containing approximately NIS 1.4 million in cash.
Authorities suspect the money was terror funds being transported into the Jerusalem area.
The driver, a 29-year-old Jerusalem resident, was arrested at the scene and transferred for questioning in a joint investigation by the Jerusalem District Police Central Unit and the Shin Bet.
A magistrate’s court subsequently extended the suspect’s detention through August 31 as the investigation continues.
