The Foreign Ministry has confirmed that Katrina (Katya) Sakovich, a 41-year-old Israeli citizen, has been missing since the flood disaster which struck the Nepal-China border on August 26.

Six days after the disaster, efforts to locate her are continuing, alongside searches for another Israeli citizen who is missing in the area.

Sakovich holds both Israeli and Belarusian citizenship and had been living in Milan in recent years. She arrived in the area as part of a pilgrimage to Mount Kailash in western Tibet and disappeared near the Rasuwagadhi-Gyirong border crossing, shortly after a massive flash flood struck the area.

Her family discovered that Nepal's official records list her only as a Belarusian citizen, with no mention of her Israeli citizenship. They subsequently contacted the Foreign Ministry, requesting that she be officially recognized as a missing Israeli citizen and that assistance be provided in coordinating search efforts with authorities in Nepal, China, and Belarus.

The Foreign Ministry says that the Israeli consulate in Kathmandu and the department responsible for assisting Israelis in distress abroad are handling the case. Both are in continuous contact with the family and are working with local authorities and organizations in an effort to locate Sakovich.

Meanwhile, Katya's sister, Darina Mikhnovich, is expected to leave for Nepal tomorrow and join the search efforts.

At the same time, searches are continuing for another Israeli, a man in his 60s, who also disappeared following the disaster. According to the information provided, he crossed from Tibet into Nepal on the morning of the flood, shortly before the waters reached the area.
