A well-known married yeshiva student from the Skverer Hasidic community in Jerusalem was arrested and transferred to military prison for draft evasion, just days before the celebration of his son’s brit milah (circumcision).

According to details published within the Hasidic community, the man had recently attempted to regularize his status with the military authorities, but due to technical and bureaucratic issues was unable to enter the IDF recruitment office.

After being told that he could stay in the Eilat area without concern, he traveled there, but was unexpectedly arrested by military authorities at Camp Yotam. He was tried and sentenced to ten days in military detention.

The arrest shocked his family, as the brit milah is scheduled to take place this coming Thursday. His family and friends are urgently appealing to military officials to allow him to leave prison and participate in the family celebration.

Those close to him stress that he is prepared to regularize his status in accordance with the law immediately upon his release. They added that resolving the matter is also urgent for him so that he will be able to travel to the United States ahead of the Tishrei holidays to spend time in the presence of his rabbi, the Skverer Rebbe.
