MAXIMUM PRESSURE: Bessent Says U.S. Will Hit Iran With New Sanctions Every Week

The Trump administration plans to impose a new round of sanctions against Iran every week as Washington intensifies its economic pressure campaign against Tehran, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Monday.
Bessent said the new measures will begin by targeting financial institutions that assist the Iranian regime, signaling that Washington intends to steadily increase the economic pressure on Tehran.
“The banks will be first,” Bessent said.
The announcement comes as the Trump administration seeks to further squeeze Iran’s already struggling economy while tensions remain high between Washington and Tehran.
The weekly sanctions campaign marks an escalation in the administration’s effort to isolate Iran financially and restrict the regime’s ability to access the international banking system.
