A growing internal dispute is threatening Naftali Bennett’s “Beyachad” party, with the party’s Ethiopian activist headquarters warning that it will walk away unless it receives representation on the party’s Knesset slate.

According to a report by N12, leaders of the Ethiopian headquarters held an emergency meeting last week after the party declined to commit to reserving a realistic spot on the slate for the group’s chairman, Alali Adamso. Adamso says the group has spent the past year building a significant political operation on Bennett’s behalf, including local events, conferences and a network involving thousands of activists.

“We volunteered for an entire year, held parlor meetings and conferences, and built a database of tens of thousands,” Adamso said, calling the party’s refusal to guarantee representation “a slap in the face.” He said the organization operates 15 local headquarters and WhatsApp groups containing thousands of volunteers, and noted that hundreds attended a national gathering with Bennett on July 20.

Adamso made clear that the group could leave the party if its demand is not met. “As long as there is no representation on the slate, we are leaving,” he said. In correspondence with Bennett’s close adviser Nir Novak, Adamso was told that “a realistic spot on the slate for the upcoming Knesset cannot be guaranteed.”

The Ethiopian headquarters currently claims approximately 4,500 activists and supporters in its WhatsApp groups across its 15 local branches. With the deadline for submitting party slates approaching, its leaders are now awaiting Bennett’s decision and warning that they could withdraw their support if they are not given representation.
