A 28-year-old man from Ilut has been indicted after allegedly making 14 threatening calls to Israel Police’s emergency hotline during a single night, including telling dispatchers that he had planted an explosive device near Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s home and threatening attacks against Jews, Arabs and police officers, according to the indictment filed by the Israel Police Prosecution Division.

Mahmoud Abd al-Majid allegedly began calling the 100 emergency hotline shortly after midnight on Aug. 12, repeatedly identifying himself by name while threatening to carry out attacks.

According to a Nazareth Police investigations officer, Abd al-Majid said during the calls that he possessed an M-16 rifle and a handgun and was waiting in Ilut for police officers to arrive so he could attack them.

In another call, he allegedly threatened to bring an explosive device to a police station in Haifa and warned the dispatcher that anyone who wanted to survive should leave the station. During another call, he claimed an explosion would occur in Haifa within 10 minutes and said the explosive had already been planted.

Police said Abd al-Majid subsequently traveled to Haifa, where prosecutors accuse him of attacking two people aboard a Metronit bus. In one incident, he allegedly assaulted a passenger near an exit door, knocking him down before later attacking another passenger.

He returned to Ilut by public transportation and was arrested after reaching his home. Police said the numerous threats consumed significant resources in two police districts because each call had to be treated as a potentially genuine emergency.

Following his arrest, Abd al-Majid allegedly refused to be questioned by a Jewish investigator and demanded an Arab investigator instead.

He has been charged with 14 counts of making threats, along with assault and additional offenses related to the incidents in Haifa. Police prosecutors have requested that he remain in custody until the conclusion of the legal proceedings.
