In 2023, artist and educator Dovid Taub released a 24-page booklet entitled “Moreh Hameshuamamim – Guide for the Bored” for the Yomim Noraim, and a follow-up booklet in 2025. Filled with Taub’s signature blend of scholarship and silliness, the booklets were aimed at providing “backdoors” to engaging with Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.

This year Taub released a full 130-page book expanding on the concept. The “Guide for the Bored” book is divided into sections for the Tefilos for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, each with their own set of quirky features, such as “Rosh Hashanah Zoo” and “Is Yizkor a Cash Grab?”

In his introduction to the book, Taub writes “There are so many sights, sounds and ideas associated with these days that can spark our imaginations. Maybe if we try enough of them we’ll find a secret passageway to some of that out-of-reach meaningfulness.”

Since its publication last week, the book has already become the #1 new release on Amazon in the “Religious Humor” category, and is in the top 20 bestsellers in “Jewish Holidays.”
