It was 27 Elul 5744, just before the start of a new year, when the Rebbe addressed a gathering of Jewish women and girls.
Among the subjects the Rebbe spoke about was Keren Hashana—and a remarkably simple idea.
Give once before the new year. Keren Hashana then distributes tzedaka on your behalf throughout the entire year—not once a day, but twice, before Shacharis and Mincha.
And the Rebbe didn’t want the idea to stop with the people in the room.
He encouraged those listening to tell others about Keren Hashana and inspire them to participate too, giving more Jews the opportunity to have tzedaka given on their behalf each day.
Today, 73 years after the Rebbe established Keren Hashana under Machne Israel, that same system continues today.
Every morning. Every afternoon. Every day of the year.
Now, as another Rosh Hashana approaches, the Rebbe’s words offer a timely reminder of an opportunity available to each of us.
