Capital One has just launched a limited time offer for its Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card. The expiration date of this offer is unknown.

You will earn a $300 Capital One hotel and vacation rental travel credit, plus 75,000 bonus miles after spending $4,000 in the first 3 months.

As you earn at least 2 miles per dollar everywhere, you’ll have at least 83,000 miles after spending $4,000 in 3 monthsm plus the $300 credit. 83K miles can be used for $830 of travel, dining, or gift cards. Or it can be transferred into 83K airline miles where they can be worth much more!

The $300 hotel and vacation rental credit will be applied to your account within two billing cycles and will expire after 12 months. The credit will be available within Capital One Travel and can be applied to  hotel and vacation rental purchases at checkout. The credit may be used in whole for a single purchase or in part over multiple purchases. If the purchase using the credit is canceled, the credit will be restored if it is not expired.

It’s worth noting that Capital One has an excellent price match guarantee for travel within 24 hours of booking. You will get a credit for the price difference, and best of all, the credit doesn’t expire!

Annual fee: 

There is a $95 annual fee for the primary card and no annual fee for additional cardholders.

Card earnings: 

• 2 miles per dollar everywhere.
• 5 miles per dollar on hotels, vacation rentals, and rental cars booked through the Capital One Travel portal.
• There are no foreign transaction fees.

Spend Threshold:

You’ll need to spend $4,000 on this card within 3 months.

You can pay your federal taxes for a 1.75% fee. If you overpay your taxes you can request a refund or apply it to your next year’s taxes.

My local natural gas company allows me to prepay up to $1,000 on a credit card for a $1.65 flat fee. That’s a great way to earn miles and help meet a spend threshold. My electricity supplier allows me to pay with a credit card for free as long as I am enrolled in autopay.

Use points for paid travel reimbursement:

Global Entry/TSA Pre-Check Credit:

It costs $78 to apply for a 5 year TSA Pre-Check membership which makes flying pleasant again. Shorter lines, no need to remove your shoes, belt, jacket, or hat. You can keep your laptop and small liquids inside your carry-on. And you go through a good old fashioned metal detector instead of assuming the position in the body scanner.  If you charge it on your card the fee will be refunded.

It costs $120 to apply for a 5 year Global Entry membership which lets you bypass the customs line. If you have Global Entry you also get TSA Pre-Check for free. Members can also apply for Global Entry/PreCheck for all of their kids under 18 for free!

Product changes:

Capital One doesn’t have regular product change options like most banks, but you may be able to change between the no annual fee Capital One VentureOne Rewards Credit Card, the $95/year Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card and the $395/year Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card, but you won’t get a signup bonus for upgrading from VentureOne or Venture to Venture X.

Even if you aren’t eligible for a product change, you can always close a card for at least a month after an annual fee is billed, to get a refund of the fee.
