Apple unveiled its newest iPhone lineup on Wednesday, headlined by the long-awaited introduction of its first foldable model, the iPhone Duo.

New CEO John Ternus, who succeeded Tim Cook on September 1, presented the devices at Apple's headquarters in Cupertino, California, reported The Associated Press. Following announcements covering updates to the iPhone, Apple Watch and AirPods, Ternus returned to the stage with a reference to the late Steve Jobs' signature presentation phrase, telling the audience at the Steve Jobs Theater that "actually there is one more thing."

The Duo unfolds into a 7.6-inch display, which Apple says is the largest ever featured on an iPhone and 80% larger than the display on the new iPhone 18 Pro. The device also supports Apple Pencil, bringing a feature previously associated with the iPad to the iPhone. Ternus said Duo "will redefine the experience of using a foldable phone."

The foldable device can display two different apps simultaneously or allow users to open two windows of the same website, including for comparing products while shopping. Its $1,999 starting price makes it the most expensive iPhone Apple has introduced.

Apple also unveiled the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, which feature upgrades to performance, cameras and battery life. The Pro starts at $1,199, while the Pro Max begins at $1,299. Preorders will open September 12, with both models going on sale September 18. The Duo is scheduled to become available October 23.

The Pro Max offers up to 45 hours of video playback, along with faster charging. Apple has added new camera capabilities, including "cinematic effects" for ordinary video, expanded manual controls and "smart focus tracking," which can keep a moving subject such as a child playing soccer in focus.

The company also highlighted new artificial intelligence capabilities for Siri, placing particular emphasis on privacy and security as Apple seeks to compete with rivals that have moved more aggressively into AI-powered features.

The standard iPhone 18 is about $100 more expensive than its predecessor, with Apple partly attributing the increase to a worldwide shortage of memory chips. The iPhone 17 lineup had prices ranging from $799 to $1,999, depending on the model.
