FINAL PREPERATIONS: Uman Braces For More Than 50,000 Yidden Ahead Of Rosh Hashanah [VIDEOS & PHOTOS]
With tens of thousands of Yidden already streaming toward Uman for Rosh Hashanah, local officials, police and Breslov askonim are making final preparations for what is expected to be an enormous influx of more than 50,000 mispallelim.
Senior officials from the Uman municipality and local police held a special coordination meeting at the offices of Ichud Breslov in Uman to address traffic, security and logistical challenges expected as the crowds continue arriving.
The meeting was attended by the commander of the Uman police, Uman Deputy Mayor Mr. Genish, Ichud Breslov chairman Rav Nosson Ben Nun, and askan Rav Levi Yitzchak Gvirtz.
A major focus was traffic along Pushkina Street and other roads leading toward the Tzion of Reb Nachman of Breslov. Officials discussed anticipated congestion at the entrances to Uman and reviewed procedures intended to keep traffic moving while maintaining security and order.
The city’s controversial tourist tax was also discussed. Rav Ben Nun asked municipal and police officials to make the process as easy as possible for the thousands of travelers arriving after grueling journeys of many hours, and to explore ways of reducing delays at the entrances to the city.
Officials involved in the preparations said coordination between Breslov askonim, the municipality and police has been intensive, with police commanders remaining in constant contact with those working on the ground.
“There is a constant sharpening of procedures,” officials familiar with the preparations said. “Police officers keep coming to ask what is happening and how things are going, to make sure everything is running properly and that order is being carefully maintained.”

Representatives of the “Uman Sheli” organization are also participating in the preparations, including chairman Rav Mordechai Gottlieb, Rav Nachman Benshaya and project manager Meir Margalit.
During the meeting, representatives outlined plans to significantly increase sanitation operations throughout Uman as well as a reception system designed to assist the massive numbers of visitors as they arrive.
The preparations come as Uman faces one of its busiest Rosh Hashanah periods ever, with more than 50,000 Yidden expected to gather at the Tzion of Reb Nachman despite the ongoing war in Ukraine and the significant travel difficulties involved in reaching the city.
