More than 60,000 Yidden from around the world have arrived in Uman, Ukraine, for Rosh Hashanah, marking what organizers say is one of the largest gatherings in the city in years.

Tens of thousands participated on Erev Rosh Hashanah in the massive Tikkun HaKlali near the Tzion of Reb Nachman of Breslov, filling the surrounding streets as the gathering reached numbers not seen since before the COVID pandemic.

Behind the scenes, Ichud Breslov established an extensive command-and-control operation to monitor the enormous crowds. Dozens of closed-circuit cameras cover the area surrounding the Tzion, with live feeds displayed inside a central command center. Emergency and security officials are stationed there to monitor crowd density and respond immediately should an emergency arise.

Ichud Breslov chairman HaRav Nosson Ben Nun remained inside the command center during the Tikkun HaKlali together with senior emergency officials, including Oz Avizov, director of ZAKA’s resilience division.

Following the event, HaRav Ben Nun said organizers were pleased with the massive Tikkun HaKlali gathering, which was the largest since before the COVID pandemic, and were now turning their attention to Rosh Hashanah itself, when tens of thousands will remain in Uman.

He said that more than 60,000 people from around the world had arrived in Uman this year.

The extraordinary turnout comes despite the continuing war in Ukraine and the complicated journey required for travelers reaching Uman through neighboring European countries.
