YouTuber Tyler Oliveira published a video targeting frum Jewish communities just hours before Yom Kippur, accusing Jewish institutions and individuals of widespread fraud in a video that has since racked up nearly 10 million views across social media.

The 26-year-old YouTuber uploaded the 55-minute video under the title, “I Exposed a Jewish Fraud Network Stealing From Poor Kids.” Within less than two days, it received approximately 6.3 million views on X and another 2.3 million on YouTube, with views on other platforms bringing the total close to 10 million.

The video opens in New Square, the Chassidish village in Rockland County, New York, where dozens of men and boys gather around Oliveira and follow his camera crew. Oliveira tells viewers there may be 200 people behind him and suggests they might attack his crew, although no such attack is seen in the footage.

As tensions rise, residents are seen filming Oliveira, vehicles follow his crew, representatives of local mosdos demand that he leave, and police are eventually called. Oliveira refers to the gathering as “the whole gang,” compares walking through the crowd to Krias Yam Suf, and jokes that he cannot distinguish between a 15-year-old and a 30-year-old because of their beards.

At the center of the video is the federal E-Rate program, which subsidizes internet services and communications equipment for schools and libraries. Institutions serving particularly high percentages of students from low-income families can receive subsidies covering as much as 90% of eligible costs.

There have been documented criminal cases involving the program. In January, school consultant Richard Bernstein pleaded guilty to attempting to defraud the program. According to prosecutors, he steered contracts toward vendors who secretly paid him portions of their profits, with companies he controlled receiving more than $100,000 in prohibited commissions.

Oliveira also points to a 2018 case in which seven frum defendants pleaded guilty to involvement in a $14 million fraud involving the program.

From there, however, Oliveira moves from established criminal cases to a series of new allegations of his own.

He claims to have identified 10 companies providing services to 77 Jewish institutions, with one individual appearing in corporate records connected to nine of the companies. Oliveira further alleges that 93.7% of 633 bids received either a single bid or no competing bid and that certain schools paid two or three times what he considers the market rate.

He also displays forms containing what he says are conflicting student enrollment figures and footage of administrators who could not explain internet bills they had signed.

According to Oliveira’s calculations, the entities he groups together have requested $43 million since 2017, received more than $15 million and currently have another $5.7 million in pending requests.

Importantly, Oliveira himself acknowledges that, aside from cases that have already resulted in guilty pleas or convictions, none of the people, schools or companies featured in his video have been charged with wrongdoing, and no court or government authority has determined that the current prices or forms highlighted in the video are illegal.

Oliveira also acknowledges that high prices or a bidding process involving only one bidder do not, by themselves, establish fraud.

The video’s sweeping presentation of the allegations as a “Jewish fraud network” drew thousands of antisemitic responses online, including comments portraying Jews as a “mafia” and other antisemitic claims involving Jews and money.

The timing also drew attention, with Oliveira releasing the video shortly before Yom Kippur, leaving much of the frum community portrayed in the video offline as it rapidly spread across social media.

Oliveira has nearly 9.7 million YouTube subscribers. Earlier this year, he published videos focusing on the frum communities of Kiryas Joel and Lakewood with inflammatory titles targeting their Jewish populations.

Patreon subsequently removed his account, while neo-Nazi influencer Nick Fuentes publicly defended him and Tucker Carlson hosted Oliveira for an interview.

A side note from YWN: Ynet news outlet in Israel is correct to call out the antisemitism surrounding this video. But there is an obvious double standard that cannot be ignored. Israeli television and media outlets routinely produce similar reports targeting Chareidi Jews in Israel, painting entire communities through allegations of fraud, corruption or wrongdoing.

You cannot pick and choose when this type of coverage constitutes antisemitism. If it is antisemitic when directed at frum Jews in America, the same standard must apply when it is directed at Chareidi Jews in Israel. Antisemitism does not suddenly become acceptable because the Jews being targeted live in Bnei Brak instead of Lakewood or New Square .
