Clarkstown Supervisor George Hoehmann Proposes Zero Tax Increase in 2027 Tentative Budget

Sep 30, 2026·2 min read

Clarkstown Supervisor George Hoehmann announced Wednesday that the Town’s tentative 2027 budget calls for no increase in the town property tax levy while maintaining funding for police, EMS and other essential services.

The tentative budget covers the fiscal year running from January 1 through December 31, 2027. The final budget is scheduled to be presented for approval on November 5, when residents will have an opportunity to provide public comment. Town Board members will work with department heads over the coming weeks as the spending plan is finalized.

“Since day one, my main priority has been to protect Clarkstown’s taxpayers,” Hoehmann said. “That is why I am proud to present a tentative budget with a zero percent tax increase.”

The budget announcement follows a recent improvement in Clarkstown’s fiscal stress score. According to the Town, the New York State Comptroller’s Fiscal Stress Monitoring System showed Clarkstown’s score improving from 26.7 for 2024 to 14.2 for 2025.

Town officials also said Standard & Poor’s has reaffirmed Clarkstown’s AA bond rating and stable outlook. Clarkstown has held an AA rating in recent years, reflecting the rating agency’s assessment of the Town’s financial position and management.

Hoehmann said the Town also plans to reduce annual borrowing, cut overall debt by approximately $4 million and have 75% of its outstanding debt scheduled to be paid off within the next decade.
