Rockland County Executive Ed Day Proposes $964.8 Million 2027 Budget With Zero Property Tax Increase
County Executive Ed Day on Thursday unveiled his proposed $964.8 million budget for 2027, which calls for no increase in County property taxes for the sixth consecutive year.
Day said County property taxes have been reduced by a total of 4% over that period, while the County continues to maintain what he described as cautious and responsible spending. He also pointed to Rockland’s financial turnaround since 2014, when the County faced a $138 million deficit.
The proposed budget includes continued funding for the County’s HERROS program, which provides up to $6,000 in college tuition reimbursement for volunteer emergency responders. According to the County, more than $700,000 has been reimbursed through the program since its inception.
The spending plan also calls for investments in parks and open space, including trail and recreational improvements. The County highlighted its 236-acre Eagle Valley Assemblage acquisition in Sloatsburg and said it will seek grant funding to help offset costs whenever possible.
Additional initiatives include modernizing County procurement and Law Department workflows, as well as investments in cybersecurity, technology systems and network infrastructure.
“This will be the sixth consecutive year that I am proposing we do not raise County Property Taxes. In fact, in that time we have cut them by 4%,” Day said.
The proposed budget now heads to the Rockland County Legislature for review. A public hearing must be held by November 20, with the Legislature required to adopt a final budget by December 7.
