Weber Campaign Poll Shows 18-Point Lead Over Rand in 38th District State Senate Race

Oct 6, 2026·2 min read

State Senator Bill Weber’s reelection campaign says a newly conducted poll shows Weber holding an 18-point lead over Democratic challenger Joe Rand in the race for New York’s 38th State Senate District.

According to the Weber campaign, the survey, conducted by McLaughlin & Associates, found Weber receiving 53% support compared to 35% for Rand.

The survey, however, was conducted August 24 through August 26,  nearly six weeks before the results were released on October 5. It surveyed 300 likely general election voters in the 38th Senate District through a combination of landline, mobile phone and text-to-web interviews and carries a stated margin of error of ±5.7%.

The figures come from a campaign-commissioned poll and are not an independent survey. Weber’s campaign said additional details regarding the poll’s methodology are contained in a polling memorandum released alongside the results.

Weber, a Republican, has represented the 38th Senate District since taking office in January 2023 after defeating then-incumbent Democrat Elijah Reichlin-Melnick in the 2022 election. Official election results show Weber won that race by just over 3,200 votes.

Weber was reelected in 2024, receiving 69,278 votes across the Republican and Conservative lines, compared with 59,750 votes for Democratic candidate Elijah Reichlin-Melnick.

Rand, the Democratic and Working Families candidate, currently serves as mayor of Nyack and is challenging Weber in the November 3 general election.

In announcing the poll results, Weber’s campaign also pointed to dissatisfaction among voters surveyed over the direction of New York State and said the poll measured opinions of several prominent Democratic political figures.

The Weber campaign said it has intensified its direct-mail and social-media efforts across the district in recent weeks, drawing contrasts between Weber’s record and Rand’s positions and endorsements.

The 38th District race is expected to remain one of Rockland County’s closely watched contests heading into Election Day.
