Clarkstown Breaks Ground on First-Ever Municipal Playground and Splash Pad in Central Nyack
The Town of Clarkstown officially broke ground Tuesday on the Assemblyman Ken Zebrowski Playground and Splash Pad, the first municipal playground to be built in Central Nyack.
Clarkstown Supervisor George Hoehmann and members of the Town Board joined the groundbreaking for the new facility, which will be located directly across from the Central Nyack Community Center. The project will include a playground and splash pad, creating a centralized area for indoor and outdoor community activities.
The facility is being named in honor of former New York State Assemblyman Ken Zebrowski, who secured $1 million in state funding for the project. The town acquired two residential properties to make way for the new recreational space.
Demolition of the properties is expected to take place by the end of this year, followed by site work, with town officials aiming to have the playground and splash pad open by summer 2027.
The project follows several other investments in Central Nyack in recent years. The Central Nyack Community Center underwent renovations in 2023, including a new roof, renovated gym and water filtration system. Earlier this year, a community garden was also established in the hamlet.
“The Town Council and I made a commitment to invest in Central Nyack and we have delivered,” Hoehmann said. He pointed to the Community Center renovations, community garden and new playground and splash pad as part of the town’s efforts to expand recreational and gathering spaces for residents.
Hoehmann said he looks forward to seeing the new playground open next summer.
