Three Men Federally Charged in Connection With 2023 Fatal Pomona Shooting
Federal prosecutors have announced charges against three men in connection with the March 2023 fatal shooting of Eric Quinones outside his home in Pomona.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York announced Tuesday that Jaquey Wilkes, 29, of Nyack, also known as “BQ,” and Tyrone Stewart, 35, of Nyack, also known as “Ty,” have been charged with robbery, firearms offenses and murder in connection with Quinones’ death.
A third defendant, Leroy Simpson, 33, of Pomona, also known as “Unc,” was charged alongside Wilkes and Stewart with narcotics conspiracy.
According to the federal indictment, on March 5, 2023, Wilkes and Stewart robbed Quinones at gunpoint in the parking lot outside the Manors Apartments in Pomona, stealing narcotics and a firearm. Prosecutors say Quinones was shot during the robbery and died from his injuries.
Federal authorities say Simpson helped arrange the drug transaction that preceded the robbery and shooting.
Wilkes and Stewart are each charged with Hobbs Act robbery, firearms use, carrying and possession, and murder through the use of a firearm. The murder charge carries a potential maximum sentence of life in prison or death. All three defendants also face narcotics conspiracy charges.
The three were presented Tuesday afternoon before U.S. Magistrate Judge Victoria Reznik. The case has been assigned to U.S. District Judge Philip M. Halpern.
The investigation involved the FBI Westchester County Safe Streets Task Force, Town of Haverstraw Police Department, Rockland County Sheriff’s Office and Orangetown Police Department, with assistance from the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office.
Haverstraw Police Chief John Gould Jr. credited detectives and partnering agencies for continuing the investigation more than three years after the killing, saying the indictment reflects their commitment to seeking justice for the victim and his family.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Kathryn Wheelock and Ioannis Drivas of the Southern District of New York’s White Plains Division.
The charges are accusations, and all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
