SHIN BET SHOWDOWN: David Zini Receives Names Of 189 Former Officials Who Challenged His Appointment
Shin Bet chief David Zini has received the names of 189 former security-service officials who challenged his appointment, bringing an end to a months-long legal dispute over whether the identities of the petitioners should be disclosed to him.
The group includes former Shin Bet chiefs Nadav Argaman, Ami Ayalon and Carmi Gillon, along with scores of other former officials who participated in legal proceedings opposing Zini’s appointment.
Dozens of the petitioners had initially been identified only by their initials, prompting Zini to argue that, as the respondent in the proceedings, he had a right to know the identities of those formally challenging his appointment.
The Supreme Court ultimately ordered the remaining petitioners to disclose their identities to Zini. Their names remain protected from general public disclosure and were provided specifically to him in connection with the proceedings.
The disclosure concludes one component of the prolonged political and legal battle surrounding Zini’s appointment to head Israel’s domestic security agency.
