The United States, Canada and eight other countries in the Western Hemisphere have jointly condemned terrorist activity attributed to Iran and its proxies, accusing Tehran-linked networks of conducting lethal plots, illicit financing and other operations across the Americas.
The declaration was signed by the United States, Argentina, Canada, Colombia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru and Trinidad and Tobago following a Countering Transnational Terrorism Forum.
The governments accused Iran and affiliated groups of involvement in lethal plots, illicit fundraising, political interference and influence operations intended to strengthen terrorist networks and undermine regional security.
The statement reflects growing concern over Tehran’s ability to conduct operations far beyond the Middle East through proxies and networks operating overseas.
The participating governments pledged to increase coordination against the threat and demanded that Iran and its proxies halt terrorist and destabilizing activities throughout the Western Hemisphere.
