Rabbi Arye Leib Prager, a beloved Mechanech in Oholei Torah who was known for his open home in Crown Heights, passed away on Wednesday, 26 Tishrei, 5787.
He was 91.
Rabbi Arye Leib Prager was a beloved, long-time second-grade teacher in Oholei Torah, renowned for his heartfelt educational songs focusing on Chinuch Al Taharas Hakodesh, Ahavas Yisroel, Derech Eretz, and Kibbud Av V’Eim.
His unique warmth and creative teaching deeply impacted generations of talmidim, leaving lessons that remain with them to this day.
Beyond the classroom, he was instrumental in establishing Chadrei Torah Ohr—the Israeli equivalent of Jewish Released Time.
Around 1985, when he sought the Rebbe’s guidance regarding going on shlichus to Tzfas, the Rebbe instructed him that his mission was right in Crown Heights.
Together with his wife, their Crown Heights home became a world-renowned beacon of Hachnosas Orchim. Welcoming guests from across the globe for warm meals and lodging, their door was always open.
It was a haven where Rebbe stories were shared, lives were inspired, and countless baalei teshuvah were lovingly guided closer to Yiddishkeit.
Arye Leib was also a passionate advocate for Shleimus HaAretz and Inyonei Moshiach.
He was widely recognized for flying his iconic yellow blimp emblazoned with messages of Moshiach and the integrity of Eretz Yisroel above the annual Lag B’Omer and Israel Day Parades.
Important Notice: Per doctors’ instructions, the family strictly requests that no mention of this be made to his wife, Mrs. Prager. She has not been informed, and it could pose a severe risk to her health.
He is survived by his wife Simcha, his sons Yanky and Berel, and his Daughter Leah Goldstein, all of Crown Heights, and grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The Levaya will take place today, Wednesday, passing by 770 at 2:00 PM.
Baruch Dayan Ha’emes.
