Rocky River police are investigating after a man left flyers with anti-Muslim messages on parked vehicles at Rocky River High School on Sept. 30.
The man, who was in his 50s or 60s according to Rocky River police, placed the flyers under the windshield wipers of vehicles that were parked in the lot next to the football stadium at around 3 p.m., according to a police report.
A student came to the school’s resource officer to tell them that an unknown male was in the parking lot. The man told the officer he wasn’t visiting a student, and the officer told the man that he isn’t allowed to put out flyers on school property and escorted him to his vehicle. The man left the school in a white Ford F-250 pickup truck with a camper attachment on the bed that was parked in a bus parking space along Detroit Road.
Messages on the flyers said that the minds of Islamic males were controlled by aliens. The man has yet to be identified by Rocky River police, who are working to identify him.
Rocky River High Principal Carrie Knapp and Superintendent Adham Schirg said in the release that messages of hate and discrimination don’t reflect the values of the school or the community.
“We won’t give these hateful messages amplification,” Knapp and Schirg said in a news release. “We remain committed to maintaining a school community where every student, staff member and family is treated with dignity and respect.”
