The British government has announced a public inquiry into the deadly terrorist attack at Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation in Manchester on Yom Kippur 2025, when two Jewish mispallelim were killed. Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood said the inquiry would examine the circumstances of the attack and allow relevant evidence to be considered.
The victims, Adrian Daulby and Melvin Cravitz, were killed during the attack carried out by Jihad Al-Shamie, a British citizen of Syrian descent. The terrorist drove toward people outside the shul before attacking individuals with a knife.
Police shot and killed the terrorist during the confrontation. Subsequent investigations established that one of the Jewish victims had been fatally struck by police gunfire during the emergency response.
The public inquiry will examine the events surrounding the attack, including information held by security agencies and police. British authorities have said the inquiry will have procedures allowing it to review sensitive national security evidence.
