NETANYAHU BLASTS MEDIA: “If We Had a Free Press, We Would Win 80 Seats”

Oct 13, 2026·3 min read

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu accused Israeli media outlets of concealing his government’s achievements during a live social media broadcast Tuesday, claiming that fair coverage would translate into an overwhelming electoral victory.

Responding to a viewer who asked why the public does not hear about the government’s accomplishments, Netanyahu described the outlets as “propaganda channels that brainwash citizens.”

“If we had a free press here, we would get 80 seats,” he said.

Netanyahu also addressed his opposition to Ofer Winter running independently in the upcoming elections, rejecting suggestions that the dispute was personal.

“I wanted him to join Likud. He refused. I told him, okay, then merge with one of the right-wing parties. He refused,” Netanyahu said.

The prime minister argued that Winter has not committed to supporting him after the elections and could instead back Gadi Eisenkot. Netanyahu claimed that supporting Eisenkot would effectively mean supporting Mansour Abbas.

“It’s not personal; it’s national. We need to ensure that the right wins,” he said.

Netanyahu also took aim at Avigdor Lieberman, accusing him of favoring the deployment of an Arab military force in Yehuda and Shomron. Mocking the name of Lieberman’s Yisrael Beiteinu party, Netanyahu suggested calling it “Jordan Beiteinu.”

Asked by an 18-year-old viewer to explain why he should vote for Likud, Netanyahu pointed to his handling of the Iranian threat.

“I’ll give you 10 million reasons—all the citizens of the State of Israel,” he replied.

Netanyahu said he had decided to launch an independent Israeli operation against Iran, which President Donald Trump subsequently joined. He warned that Tehran would again attempt to obtain nuclear weapons and challenged the positions of Eisenkot and Yair Golan.

“So who will stop them again?” he asked.

Turning to the cost of living, Netanyahu claimed that his government had reduced inflation from 5% to 1.5%. He also said housing prices had declined approximately 1.5%, contrasting that with what he described as a roughly 20% increase under the Bennett-Lapid government.

Netanyahu added that the government had allocated NIS 25 billion to reservists and their families.

During the broadcast, he also spoke with an 18-year-old preparing to enlist in the Golani Brigade and wished him success.

Toward the end of the session, Netanyahu returned to his criticism of the media, pointing to extensive construction around him as evidence of economic activity.

“Open the window. Go out into the street,” he said, citing an assessment by The Economist that he said ranked Israel among the world’s three most dynamic economies.
