DEATH PENALTY DEMAND: Ben Gvir Calls for Execution of Terrorist Who Murdered Netanel Shakron
National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir is demanding expedited legal proceedings and the death penalty for Kadri Samara, the terrorist who murdered Netanel Shakron in a shooting attack in Binyamin on Erev Yom Kippur.
In a letter to Military Advocate General Maj. Gen. Itai Ofir, Ben Gvir questioned why an indictment had not been filed approximately three weeks after the attack. He argued that the circumstances did not justify the delay and requested a prompt explanation.
According to the letter, Samara carried out the September 20 attack near the Ein Raya spring, close to Neve Tzuf, murdering Shakron, a resident of Alei Zahav.
Shakron was sitting in his vehicle with his eldest son, 16, who managed to escape unharmed. He is survived by his wife and six children.
The terrorist fled the scene but was captured later that day by soldiers from the IDF’s Duvdevan unit at a hospital in Ramallah, where he was receiving treatment for gunshot wounds sustained during the attack.
Ben Gvir contended that there was no factual dispute or legal complexity that would justify the time taken to bring charges.
“Every delay constitutes a reward for terrorism and undermines the State of Israel’s deterrence,” he wrote.
The minister argued that a swift and efficient trial is an important means of strengthening deterrence against future terrorist attacks.
He further demanded that Samara become the first terrorist prosecuted under the death penalty law and the order enacted pursuant to it.
According to Ben Gvir, the order requires the death penalty for a Palestinian Authority resident who commits a murderous terrorist attack, even if prosecutors do not request that sentence.
His letter called on the Military Advocate General to explain the delay and advance the case without further postponement.
