SECURITY RESPONSE UPGRADE: IDF Deploys AI-Based “Netz” System to More Than 1,300 Community Defense Teams

Oct 14, 2026·1 min read

The IDF has implemented its new “Netz” command-and-control system in more than 1,300 community defense teams across Israel, connecting tens of thousands of personnel as part of efforts to address failures exposed during the October 7 attack.

The system enables rapid deployment of forces during emergencies, provides an operational picture in real time and coordinates activity between local defense teams, IDF units, Israel Police and other security agencies.

Built on data infrastructure and artificial intelligence, Netz is designed to improve command and control during large-scale incidents and shorten response times for forces in the field.

Development began at the outbreak of the war as an initiative by reservists. The project is now led by the Alumot unit within the Data and Artificial Intelligence Division of the IDF’s Communications and Cyber Defense Directorate.

The IDF said the system forms part of a broader effort to strengthen coordination between local security teams and national security forces, drawing on lessons from the breakdowns during the October 7 massacre.
