COLOMBIA OPENS EMBASSY IN YERUSHALAYIM: Foreign Ministers Mark Diplomatic Milestone
Colombia officially inaugurated its embassy in Yerushalayim on Wednesday, becoming the tenth country to establish its diplomatic mission in Israel’s capital. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar and Colombian Foreign Minister Omar Bula Escobar attended the opening ceremony.
During the inauguration, the two ministers unveiled the embassy’s sign, marking the formal establishment of the Colombian diplomatic mission in Yerushalayim.
Sa’ar affixed a mezuzah to the entrance of the embassy before addressing those attending the ceremony. He described the opening as an important milestone in relations between Israel and Colombia.
The foreign minister noted that when he took office less than two years ago, only five foreign embassies were located in Yerushalayim. Colombia’s decision brings that number to ten.
Colombia’s foreign minister said diplomatic relations between the countries should never have been interrupted and described Israel as a strategic partner. Following the ceremony, the ministers continued their discussions during a diplomatic meeting at Israel’s Foreign Ministry.
