ARAB LAWMAKER BACKS OCTOBER 7 INQUIRY: Joint List Would Support State Commission, Tibi Says
MK Ahmad Tibi announced Wednesday that the Joint List would support the establishment of a state commission of inquiry into the October 7, 2023, Hamas massacre, adding a new position to the political debate surrounding accountability for the security failures that preceded the attack.
Tibi made the remarks during an appearance at a conference organized by Israel’s Manufacturers Association.
The proposal for a state commission of inquiry has become a major political issue in Israel, with opposition parties demanding an independent investigation into the government, military, and intelligence agencies’ conduct before and during the massacre.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his political allies have faced repeated questions about the appropriate structure and timing of such an inquiry.
Tibi said representatives of the Joint List would vote in favor of establishing a state commission. His comments came less than two weeks before Israel’s scheduled Knesset elections.
